Jessie Mueller & Jake Epstein Channel Carole King & Gerry Goffin in Vanity Fair

We’re excited to see Tony nominee Jessie Mueller rock out as Carole King in the new Broadway musical Beautiful, which charts the pop icon’s rise as a singer/songwriter in partnership with her then-husband, Gerry Goffin, played by Jake Epstein. Vanity Fair puts a spotlight on the show in the magazine’s December issue, including this gorgeous shot of the two stars by photographer Pari Dukovic. (What a shock to realize from Bruce Handy's article that King wrote her first number one hit with Goffin at age 18 and released Tapestry at 29!) Beautiful has just begun previews at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre and will open on January 12, 2014, directed by Mark Bruni.
