Prince Charles Gets a Sneak Peek at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Stephen Ward at Royal Variety Performance

One of the biggest events of the London theater season is the forthcoming premiere of Stephen Ward, the new musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Don Black and a book and lyrics by Christopher Hampton. Title star Alexander Hanson and Charlotte Spencer (as his paramour Christine Keeler) previewed their duet “This Side of the Sky” for a starry crowd at the annual Royal Variety Performance, taped on November 25 for broadcast on December 9. Lloyd Webber introduced the number (above), and after the show, Prince Charles greeted the composer and his two lead players (below).
