Original Fun Home star Alexandra Socha has departed the Public Theater production due to personal reasons, and will be replaced by her understudy, Emily Skeggs. After three extensions, the hit musical is currently playing through December 29 at the Newman Theater, featuring Tony winner Michael Cerveris and Tony nominee Judy Kuhn.
Before joining the cast of Fun Home, Skeggs appeared off-Broadway in Take Me Along. Her additional theater credits include Our Town, Macbeth, Dancing at Lughnasa, Robinhood, Much Ado About Nothing, The Actor, The Bluest Eye, The Golden Age and Common Ground.
Based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home is the story of one girl’s quest to come to terms with her father’s sudden death. As she moves between past and present, Alison delves into a tale about her volatile, brilliant father and her unique childhood at her family’s funeral home. Directed by Sam Gold, Fun Home features music by Jeanine Tesori and a book and lyrics by Lisa Kron.
In addition to Skeggs, Kuhn and Cerveris, Fun Home features Griffin Birney, Roberta Colindrez, Noah Hinsdale, Sydney Lucas, Beth Malone and Joel Perez.
