The West End is about to get another American ballet boy! Mitchell Tobin from Florida is set to take the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical. Tobin becomes the 36th boy and eighth American to play the role in London. The 13-year-old dancer previously preformed as Billy in the North American tour and is making his West End debut. Directed by Stephen Daldry and featuring music by Elton John and a book and lyrics by Lee Hall, Billy Elliot is currently playing at the Victoria Palace Theatre.
Mitchell joins Elliott Hanna, Bradley Perret, Redmand Rance and Ali Rasul who will alternate the role of Billy. Zach Atkinson, Zak Baker and Freddie Butterfield play the role of Billy’s best friend Michael. Billy Elliot also stars Anna-Jane Casey as Mrs Wilkinson, Deka Walmsley as Dad, Kevin Wathen as Tony, Ann Emery as Grandma and Howard Crossley as George.
Based on the Oscar nominated film, Billy Elliot the Musical is an inspiring story of one boy’s dream to know his ambitions against the odds. Set in the North East of England alongside the backdrop of the historic 1984-85 miners’ strike, Billy follows his passion for dance in secret to evade disapproval from his struggling family.
