Kick Kennedy, the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy, will make her New York stage debut in Jean Anouilh’s modern retelling of Sophocles’ Antigone. Kennedy will portray the title role in the classic translated by Louis Galantiere. Directed by Peter Dobbins, the drama will play a limited engagement through February 15, 2014. Performances begin January 10 at The Theatre of the Church of Notre Dame.
Kennedy’s television credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, Gossip Girl and The Newsroom. She will be joined onstage by Annemarie Agbodji, Inga Ballard, Robert Carroll, Michael Early, George Gloss, Alexis Kelley, Jeff Kline, Anthony Russo and Jose Sanchez.
A religious rite denied for the “good of the State” provokes a determined young woman to an act of defiance.This interpretation of Sophocles’ ancient tragedy explores the conflicts between the individual vs. the state, idealism vs. pragmatism, but ultimately its greatness lies in its exploration of the human soul and its greatest desires.
The Antigone creative team includes set design by Czerton Lim, costume design by Courtney Irizarry, lighting design by Michael Abrams and sound design by Alex Santullo.
