Peter Maloney has joined the cast for Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere of Outside Mullingar, starring Tony winner Brian F. O'Byrne and Emmy winner Debra Messing. Maloney will play the role of Tony, replacing the previously announced John Aylward, who is withdrawing from the production by mutual agreement. Written by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley and directed by Tony winner Doug Hughes, Outside Mullingar begins previews at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on January 3, 2014 with opening night set for January 23.
Maloney’s Broadway credits include West Side Story, To Be Or Not To Be, Dinner at Eight, Judgment at Nuremberg, Stanley, Arcadia, Carousel, Six Degrees of Separation and Our Town. His film and TV credits include Brightest Star, A Gifted Man, Rescue Me, Gossip Girl, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, K-PAX, Requiem for a Dream, Boiler Room and JFK.
Outside Mullingar follows Anthony (O’Byrne) and Rosemary (Messing), two introverted misfits straddling 40. Anthony has spent his entire life on a cattle farm in rural Ireland, a state of affairs that—due to his painful shyness—suits him well. Rosemary lives right next door, determined to have him, watching the years slip away. With Anthony’s father threatening to disinherit him and a land feud simmering between their families, Rosemary has every reason to fear romantic catastrophe.
