Before Tony nominee Tammy Blanchard ventures Into the Woods on the big screen, she’ll go someplace even darker, reports Deadline.com. The How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying alum will play Loretta Hickey, the mother of a murdered drug addict, on the new FX detective drama Hoke opposite fellow Broadway alum Paul Giamatti. No airdates for the new series have been announced, but it is rumored to premiere in 2014.
Based on Charles Willeford’s detective novels Sideswipe, New Hope For the Dead and The Way We Die Now, the new series is adapted by Scott Frank. Hoke features Giamatti as Hoke Moseley, a homicide detective in 1980s Miami who investigates crimes while also grappling with his own midlife crisis. Blanchard will be a series regular, and her character is a key player in Willeford’s second book, New Hope For the Dead.
Blanchard garnered Tony nominations for her performances in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Gypsy, her Broadway debut. She will play evil stepsister Florinda in the forthcoming Into the Woods film, set for a Christmas 2014 release. She won an Emmy for her portrayal of Judy Garland in Me and My Shadows. Blanchard recently appeared in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine.
