Broadway husband-and-wife duo Audra McDonald and Will Swenson are already the most adorable couple we know, and we didn’t think it was possible that they could ever get any cuter...until now! The Broadway power couple will star together in a reading of Shakespeare’s epic love poem Venus and Adonis on February 10 at the Public Theater. Additional casting has not been announced, but we're voting for cameos from “the wee posse of three” as cherubs.
Following the reading, the five-time Tony winner and her Les Miz star hubby will discuss the Shakespeare poem—and they’ll be chatting about modern-day love, too. The poem tells the story of the young Adonis (Swenson), who is seduced by the goddess Venus (McDonald), resulting in uncomfortable circumstances for humanity. The reading will be presented as part of the Public Theater’s Public Forum Drama Club series.
McDonald and Swenson met while appearing together in 110 in the Shade at Broadway’s Studio 54 in 2007 and were married in 2012. McDonald racked up Tony Awards for Porgy and Bess, A Raisin in the Sun, Ragtime, Master Class and Carousel, while Swenson was a Tony nominee for Hair and is currently prepping to play Javert in Les Miz. We can't wait to see the happy couple onstage together again!
