Barbra’s basement has a new host! Christopher J. Hanke will begin performances in the off-Broadway hit Buyer & Cellar on March 18, taking over from Michael Urie, who as previously reported will launch the show’s first national tour in May.
Hanke’s Broadway credits include How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Cry Baby. Other stage credits include Hair. His screen credits include The Client List, Major Crimes, The Normal Heart, Big Love, Brothers and Sisters and Three Rivers.
Buyer & Cellar had its world premiere in April 2013 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, where it played a sold-out, extended run before transferring to the Barrow Street Theatre where it opened June 24, 2013. Written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Stephen Brackett, the one-man show tells the story of Alex More, a struggling Los Angeles actor who finds himself taking an odd job working in the Malibu basement of a Hollywood mega-star. When the A-lister makes a rare appearance one day, Buyer & Cellar launches into an outrageous look at fame and the price that accompanies it.
