Tony Award winner Cicely Tyson and Tony nominee Vanessa Williams will announce the nominees for the 64th annual Outer Critics Circle awards on April 22 at the Friars Club. Nominations will be given in 24 categories that recognize achievements in Broadway and off-Broadway productions. The winners will be announced on May 12 prior to the May 22 presentation of awards at Broadway hotspot Sardi’s Restaurant.
Tyson and Williams recently starred together on Broadway in The Trip to Bountiful, which marked Tyson’s return to the Great White Way after 30 years and brought the actress her first Tony award. The two reprised their roles in a Lifetime TV adaption of Horton Foote’s play. Tyson’s additional Broadway credits include The Corn Is Green and Trumpets of the Lord. Williams, who will take the Cotton Club stage in After Midnight beginning April 1, received a Tony nomination for her performance as the Witch in the 2002 revival of Into the Woods. She has also appeared in Sondheim on Sondheim and Kiss of the Spider Woman.
