Broadway favorites Jeremy Jordan, Ashley Brown, Rebecca Naomi Jones and Ron Bohmer will star in a semi-staged concert performance of Stephen Schwartz’s Children of Eden at The Kennedy Center. Directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge, the one-night-only event will play May 19 at the Eisenhower Theater.
Jordan, who will star as Jamie in the upcoming film adaptation of The Last Five Years will play Cain/Japeth, alongside Mary Poppins alum Brown as Eve/Mama Noah, American Idiot and Murder Ballad standout Jones as Yonah and Ragtime and A Little Night Music’s Bohmer as Father. The National Broadway Chorus will serve as angels, animals and storytellers. Additional cast members will be announced shortly.
Freely based on the story of Genesis, Children of Eden offers a heartfelt and often humorous look at the age-old conflict between parents and children as Adam, Eve, Noah and the “Father” who created them deal with the actions of their respective children. The musical opened in the West End in 1991. While never seeing a Broadway or off-Broadway run, Children of Eden has become one of the most frequently licensed properties for professional and amateur theater companies.
