Hot off the heels of receiving the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Annie Baker’s The Flick will return to New York! According to The New York Times, the play, which ran under the direction of Sam Gold at Playwrights Horizons in 2013, will be remounted at Barrow Street Theater in the near future.
Baker shared with The New York Times that she expects the Playwrights Horizons cast of The Flick, Alex Hanna, Louisa Krause, Matthew Maher and Aaron Clifton Moten, to reprise their roles at Barrow Street, pending availability. A spokesperson for producer Scott Rudin confirmed this. Further details of the remounting of the Pulitzer-winning drama will be announced in due course.
Set in a rundown movie theater in central Massachusetts, The Flick tells the story of three underpaid employees who mop the floors and attend to one of the last 35 millimeter film projectors in the state. Their battles and heartbreaks, more gripping than the lackluster second-run movies on screen, play out in the empty theater aisles.
