Fun’s Home’s Beth Malone will play the titular role in the “refreshed” revival of The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Helmed by three-time Tony winner Kathleen Marshall, the previously reported production will run September 12 through October 26 at the Denver Center Theatre Company. Opening night is set for September 19.
Malone recently told the U-T San Diego about the Denver production, "they’re workshopping it to take it to New York.” The actress may have a tough decision to make: Fun Home could also be Broadway-bound. Malone made her Great White Way debut in 2006 originating the role of June Carter Cash in Ring of Fire. Other stage credits include Baby, Beehive, Bon Voyage and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The Unsinkable Molly Brown ran on Broadway from 1960-62. Based on the original book by Richard Morris, this production will have lyrics and music by Meredith Willson, with additional lyrics and book by Dick Scanlan.
