Ramin Karimloo and James Monroe Iglehart have both won 2014 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Awards for their Tony nominated roles in Les Miz and Aladdin, respectively. The productions played in Canada before transferring to the Great White Way.
Karimloo was named best actor in a musical for his performance as Jean Valjean, while Iglehart received his gong for best supporting actor in a musical for his genius genie.
Albert Schultz’s revival of Angels in America and Duncan Macmillan’s Lungs shared the prize of best production of a play in the 2013-14 season. London Road received the honor of best production of a musical.
Not long now to find out whether Karimloo and Iglehart will triumph in the same categories at the Tonys—the 68th Annual Tony Awards will be held June 8 at Radio City Music Hall and broadcast live on CBS.
