Bill Laimbeer knows a thing or two about Detroit—although he was raised in Chicago and California, the former NBA player shot hoops for the Detroit Pistons for nearly a decade. He went on to coach the WNBA’s Detroit Shock before heading to New York City in 2013 to coach the New York Liberty. The coach didn’t need to leave the Big Apple to take a trip to Detroit on July 15, when he saw the hit jukebox musical Motown on Broadway. After hearing “Dancing in the Street,” “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” and more hit songs live, Laimbeer headed backstage with his wife Chris to meet stars Josh Tower, Charl Brown, Krystal Joy Brown, Nathaniel Xavier Cullors and Nik Walker, and get a behind-the-scenes tour. Check out these snapshots of their visit, then see Motown the Musical at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre!
