Mandy Patinkin Could be Broadway Bound
This is interesting. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has announced that owing to a “schedule conflict resulting from participation in an upcoming Broadway production, Mandy Patinkin has withdrawn his engagement with the Orchestra, slated for January 22.” Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander will be taking over for the Tony winner, but here’s the thing: Patinkin isn’t currently announced for any upcoming Great White Way shows. The next time the Homeland star is scheduled to tread the boards is in May 2015 at A.R.T. in The Last Two People on Earth: An Apocalyptic Vaudeville. Watch this space.
Les Miz Scribe Alain Boublil's New Show to Play Off-Broadway
Les Miz scribe Alain Boublil’s latest show will have an off-Broadway run. Helmed by Graciela Daniele, Manhattan Parisienne will play a limited engagement at 59E59 December 18 through January 4, 2015. The musical play will follow a French female singer and a male New York musician who has a history with Paris. Connected by music, they embark on a surreal journey though NYC on a rainy evening, intersecting with various characters including a street musician who may be more than what he seems.
Academia Nuts and Cloned! Win Big at 2014 NYMTF Awards
Academia Nuts has won the Play-by-Play Best New Musical Award and Cloned! the Best of Fest Audience Prize at the 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival Awards for Excellence. Other honorees include Douglas J. Cohen for Excellence in Writing in both music and lyrics for The Gig, Rick Kunzi & Justin Zeppa for Excellence in Writing (book) for Bayonets of Angst and Thomas Caruso for Excellence in Direction for Academia Nuts. Outstanding Ensemble Performance went to Bayonets of Angst. Awards for Outstanding Individual Performances were picked up by Larry Cahn (The Gig), Rachel Dunham (Oprahfication), Alexis Fishman (Der Gelbe Stern), Alyse Alan Louis, (Academia Nuts), Kenita Miller (Propaganda! The Musical), Erin Leigh Peck (Mr. Confidential), Brian Charles Rooney (Bayonets of Angst), Jennifer Simard (Academia Nuts), J. Robert Spencer (Bayonets of Angst) and Lynne Wintersteller (Mother Jones and the Children's Crusade).
