We’re gonna be honest: Things around the Broadway.com offices have gotten really boring the last few weeks. It’s sweltering, it’s humid, and worst of all, no new Broadway shows open until after Labor Day. But never fear, dear readers, we’ve got a great way to spice up the month of August: Broadway.com Summer Camp! Each day for 31 days, we’re highlighting the campiest, craziest, wildest—and did we mention campiest?—videos we can find. Put on your gaudy bathing suit and dive in!
WHY WE LOVE IT
So back in 1988, jazz singer and Tony nominee Cleo Laine released an album: Cleo Sings Sondheim. No mystery what the track list consisted of. What is enigmatic, though, is this music video. It’s one part soothing and two parts terrifying. She sounds beautiful on the Into the Woods staple, but she also looks like she could murder you if she wanted. Also, what’s the subtext here? Whose dog is this? Is it hers? Probably, considering they totally match. And how does the dog have the ability to control the elevator that goes directly into her soap opera set/apartment? And why does the dog straight up abandon her as she sings that no one is alone? Wait, is that dog actually Satan?! So many questions.

OVERALL CAMP FACTOR
The action in this video is maybe a 6/10, but that White House Black Market getup is a perfect score.
