Shut Up Sit Down & Eat, conceived by and starring four New York comedians, will play off-Broadway starting this fall. Performances will begin on October 12 and run on Sundays through December 28. Opening night is set for October 26 at the Snapple Theater Center. The cast/writing team is comprised of Tina Giorgi, Joe Moffa, Chris Monty and Eric Tartaglione. Eve Brandstein will direct.
When a therapist fails to arrive on time for a group therapy session, four impatient Italian Americans decide to take their issues into their own hands. The play is considered a “plomedy”—that is, a cross between a play and stand-up comedy.
Giorgi’s stage credits include Falling Up and In Depth; through her comedy career, she has appeared on The Late Late Show, Comics Unleashed and Tough Crowd. Moffa’s screen credits include Carlito’s Way, Stardom and Blue Bloods. Monty appeared in The Business of Comedy and Meet the Tanners on screen and in Biloxi Blues, Kimberly Akimbo and Brilliant Traces on stage. Tartaglione, whose comedy work has been seen on Last Comic Standing, has appeared on the New York stage in Othello and Code of Silence.
