Romance is back on Broadway with A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters, featuring a rotating cast including Mia Farrow, Brian Dennehy, Alan Alda, Candice Bergen, Martin Sheen and Anjelica Huston. So we got to thinking: when they've all finished their runs, which starry Great White Way pair would you like to reunite in the production? The votes are in and the duo you’d love to see play pen pals Andy and Melissa is…
1. Lea Michele & Jonathan Groff—44%
Although Love Letters tells the story of a 50-year correspondence, Gurney has encouraged actors of all ages to try the roles on for size and you emphatically thought that this was a good idea. They may be best friends now, but back in the day Michele and Groff had to simulate sex more than 1,000 times onstage in Spring Awakening. Broadway fans would be Glee-ful to see the love story continue at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
2. Patti LuPone & Mandy Patinkin—15%
One of the Great White Way's favorite duos ever since they waltzed their way around the Evita stage, the Tony winners only just won the silver medal spot. Perhaps because although it would be fabulous to see the pair speak the Love Letters script, we’d much rather hear them sing it.
3. Audra McDonald & Norm Lewis—14%
You adored them in 2011's Tony-winning revival of Porgy and Bess and you’d love to see them reunite on the Broadway stage. We know they’re still good friends, so if six-time Tony winner McDonald doesn’t end up hanging out with Oprah next on the Great White Way, maybe Lewis could hang up his Phantom mask and tread the boards with her once more?
