Casting is now set for the U.S. premiere of Sam Shepard’s A Particle of Dread (Oedipus Variations). Joining the previously announced Oscar nominee Stephen Rea in the Signature Theatre production are Tony winner Brid Brennan, Lloyd Hutchinson, Jason Kolotouros, Matthew Rausch, Aidan Redmond and Judith Roddy. Performances will begin on November 11 at Alice Griffin Jewel box Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center. The production, directed by Nancy Meckler, will officially open on November 23.
Brennan made her Broadway debut in Dancing at Lughnasa, for which she won a Tony Award. Hutchinson has appeared on screen in Anonymous and Mrs. Henderson Presents. Kolotouros’ New York stage credits include Her Majesty the King and Blue Window. Rauch has appeared on Broadway in The Merchant of Venice and on screen in The Wolf of Wall Street. Redmond was recently featured in the Broadway revival of The Cripple of Inishmaan. Roddy’s screen credits include The Fall and Love is the Drug.
A Particle of Dread is a dark, modern-day take on Oedipus Rex. The play premiered in Ireland. The play is presented as part of Signature’s Legacy program, which features works of past Signature Playwrights-in-Residence.
The play will feature scenic design by Frank Conway, costumes by Lorna Marie Mugan, lighting design by Michael Chybowski, sound design Jill BC Du Boff and music by Neil Martin.
