The Great White Way revival of Bernard Pomerance’s The Elephant Man, starring Oscar nominee and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Bradley Cooper, begins performances at the Booth Theatre on November 7. Scott Ellis directs the new production, which premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2012. Cooper is joined on stage by a cast that includes Patricia Clarkson and Alessandro Nivola.
The Elephant Man revolves around the real-life John Merrick (Cooper), a severely disfigured 19th-century Englishman who struggles to live with dignity. The play premiered on Broadway in 1979 and won three Tony Awards, including Best Play. In addition to Cooper, Clarkson and Nivola, the cast features Anthony Heald, Scott Lowell, Kathryn Meisle, Henry Stram, Chris Bannow, Peter Bradbury, Lucas Calhoun, Eric Clem, Amanda Lea Mason, Marguerite Stimpson and Emma Thorne.
The Elephant Man will open officially on December 7. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through February 15, 2015.
