The complete cast is now set for the New York premiere of Rasheeda Speaking, directed by Cynthia Nixon. Joining the previously announced Oscar winner Dianne Wiest and Tony winner Tonya Pinkins are Patricia Conolly and Darren Goldstein. The New Group production will begin performances on January 27, 2015 at off-Broadway’s Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center. Opening night is set for February 11.
Written by Joel Drake Johnson, Rasheeda Speaking explores unspoken tensions between Ileen (Wiest) and Jaclyn (Pinkins), two front desk workers who find themselves in a power struggle with the doctor (Goldstein) for whom they work. Conolly plays Rose, a patient who visits the office.
Wiest took home Oscars for Bullets Over Broadway and Hannah and Her Sisters; she was most recently seen on stage off-Broadway in The Cherry Orchard. Pinkins, who appeared on the Great White Way earlier this year in Holler If Ya Hear Me, earned a Tony Award for her performance in Jelly’s Last Jam and was also nominated for Play On! and Caroline, or Change. Conolly’s Broadway credits include Coast of Utopia, Is He Dead, Enchanted April, Judgement at Nuremberg and Waiting in the Wings. Goldstein has appeared on the Main Stem in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and off-Broadway with The New Group in The Good Mother, Abigail’s Party, Mouth to Mouth and Terrorism, Oohrah!.
This production features set design by Allen Moyer, costumes by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton and sound design and original music by David Van Tieghem.
