She’s arrived, and the spotlight is on her, honey! The Real Housewife of Atlanta star Nene Leakes steps into Broadway’s Cinderella beginning November 25. She takes over as stepmother Madame from Sherri Shepherd at the Broadway Theatre.
In addition to The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Leakes has appeared on (non-reality) TV in The New Normal and Glee. She has also competed on Dancing with the Stars and The Celebrity Apprentice. Cinderella marks her Broadway debut.
The cast of Cinderella also includes Keke Palmer as Cinderella, Joe Carroll as Prince Topher, Judy Kaye as the Fairy Godmother, Ann Harada as stepsister Charlotte, Stephanie Gibson as stepsister Gabrielle, Peter Bartlett as Sebastian, Prince Topher's mentor and Lord Chancellor, Todd Buonopane as the rebel Jean-Michel and Phumzile Sojola as Lord Pinkleton.
Directed by Mark Brokaw, the production brings to the Broadway stage for the first time the tuner by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II that originally aired as a TV special in 1957, starring Julie Andrews. This Cinderella features a completely re-imagined book by Douglas Carter Beane and additional Rodgers and Hammerstein songs originally composed for other musicals. The production will play its final performance on January 3, 2015.
