Stage and screen favorites Hamish Linklater and John Noble will star in the previously announced world premiere of Posterity, written and directed by Pulitzer and Tony winner Doug Wright. The Atlantic Theater production will begin performances on February 25, 2015 at the Linda Gross Theater, where it will play a limited engagement through April 5. Opening night is set for March 15.
Linklater will play celebrated sculptor Gustav Vigeland, and John Noble will take on the role of prolific playwright Henrik Ibsen. Joining the pair are Dale Soules as Greta Bergstrom, Henry Stram as Sophus Larpent and Mickey Theis as Anfinn Beck.
Linklater made his Broadway debut in Seminar; his many off-Broadway credits include Much Ado About Nothing, The Comedy of Errors, The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night and Hamlet at the Public’s Shakespeare in the Park, as well as The School for Lies, The Busy World is Hushed and Recent Tragic Events. Noble has appeared both onstage and behind the scenes, directing Sons of Cain in the West End and performing in Errol Flynn’s Great Big Adventure Book for Boys in Scotland. Soules returns to the Atlantic after appearing in The Water Engine, The Joy of Going Somewhere Definite and Blithe Spirit; her Broadway credits include Hair, Dude and Hands on a Hardbody. Stram has appeared on Broadway in The Elephant Man, Inherit the Wind, The Crucible and Titanic. Theis, a recent graduate of the Yale School of Drama, makes his off-Broadway debut with Posteriety.
The new play explores the nature of artistic success and the fear of being forgotten as Norway’s most celebrated sculptor (Linklater) prepares to commission a portrait of Henrik Ibsen (Noble). The playwright proves to be a hot-tempered, sitter, and the two wage war over his legacy.
Posterity will feature scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by David Lander and original music and sound design by David Van Tieghem.
