The film adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years, as previously reported, will arrive in movie theaters on February 13, 2015. But you can also witness the heartbreak, belting and roadtrip hookups in the comfort of your home (read: bed, surrounded by tissues and pints of ice cream)! The film, which stars Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan and Into the Woods’ Anna Kendrick, will be released on Video On Demand on the same day. Additionally, the film’s soundtrack will be available in stores and online a few days earlier on February 10.
The movie, directed by Richard LaGravenese (who also penned the screenplay), is an adaptation of the 2002 off-Broadway musical that centers around Jamie, a writer, and Cathy, an aspiring actress, over the course of half a decade. Jamie tells the story from beginning to end, while Cathy starts with their separation. The film will feature cameos from stars of past productions of the tuner, including Sherie Rene Scott and Betsy Wolfe, as well as the piano man himself: Jason Robert Brown.
The soundtrack will include all of the songs that appear in the stage show, from Cathy’s post-breakup “Still Hurting” to the simultaneously depressing and uplifting “Goodbye Until Tomorrow/I Could Never Rescue You.”
