We’ve been writing for some time how the Bradley Cooper headlined The Elephant Man has been proving a big hit with theatergoers, and the play has now recouped its $3.1 million capitalization. The production has once again broken the Booth Theatre's box office record for the week ending December 28, grossing $1,058,547, also becoming the first show ever to bring in more than $1 million in a single week at the venue. The Elephant Man is set to run on Broadway through February 22, 2015.
Bernard Pomerance’s The Elephant Man revolves around the real-life Joseph Merrick (Cooper), a severely disfigured 19th-century Englishman who struggles to live with dignity. The revival, which premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2012, is helmed by Scott Ellis.
In addition to Cooper, the production also stars Alessandro Nivola and Patricia Clarkson. The company features Anthony Heald, Scott Lowell, Kathryn Meisle, Henry Stram, Chris Bannow, Peter Bradbury, Lucas Calhoun, Eric Clem, Amanda Lea Mason, Marguerite Stimpson and Emma Thorne.
