Michael C. Hall Set for Pete's Dragon
Current Hedwig headliner Michael C. Hall has boarded Disney’s remake of Pete's Dragon, according to Variety. As we previously reported, the live-action movie will feature original Matilda star, honorary Tony winner Oona Laurence. The cast will also include Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard and Wes Bentley.
BAFTA Love for Stage Vets
Nominations were announced for "The Baftas," the U.K.’s equivalent of the Oscars on January 9, and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts showed a whole lot of love for some of our fave stage stars. Tony winners Eddie Redmayne and Ralph Fiennes, along with Oliver winner Benedict Cumberbatch and Constellations’ Jake Gyllenhaal, all received Leading Actor nods. Other notable nominees include Cabaret’s Emma Stone, Olivier winner Imelda Staunton and Therese Raquin’s Keira Knightley in the Supporting Actress category. Meanwhile, interesting to note that the Broadway-set Birdman is in the running for Best Film and Pride, the musical adaptation of which is eyeing a West End engagement, garnered a nomination for Outstanding British Film. The award ceremony will take place on February 8 at London’s Royal Opera House.
Hugh Jackman & Neverland Composer Join Biopic
The River’s Hugh Jackman has been tapped for a Brit biopic about local hero Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, an unlikely U.K. contender at at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary. The Tony winner will play Edwards' mentor. The Daily Mail also reports that Finding Neverland scribe Gary Barlow will pen songs for the movie.
