This cast is bustin’ out all over! Recent Side Show star Matthew Hydzik, Tony nominee Charlotte d’Amboise, Tony winner Jarrod Emick and Tony nominee Tony Roberts have joined the cast of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s upcoming production of Carousel. They join the previously announced Steven Pasquale, Laura Osnes, Jenn Gambatese and Denyce Graves. The Rob Ashford-helmed production will begin performances on April 10 and run through May 3. Opening night is set for April 11.
Hydzik will take on the role of Enoch Snow. In addition to Side Show, his Broadway credits include West Side Story and Grease. D’Amboise, who will play Mrs. Mullin, recently completed a special return to the Broadway revival of Chicago after starring in Pippin on the Great White Way. Her additional credits include Tony-nominated performances in A Chorus Line and Jerome Robbins’ Broadway. Emick will play Jigger Craigin and took home a Tony Award in 1994 for Damn Yankees; he has since appeared in The Rocky Horror Show, The Boy From Oz and Ring of Fire. Roberts, who takes on the role of the Starkeeper, received Tony nominations for How Now, Dow Jones and Play It Again, Sam and most recently appeared on Broadway in The Royal Family.
Carousel, written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, follows the tragic romance of carousel barker Billy Bigelow (Pasquale) and mill worker Julie Jordan (Osnes). The show features a catalogue of musical theater standards including “If I Loved You,” “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” The original production opened on Broadway on April 19, 1945. The show was revived four times, with the most recent staging winning the 1995 Tony Award for Best Revival.
