The original “princess posse” of last fall’s New York limited engagement of Disenchanted! will be making the transfer to Westside Theatre Upstairs for the show’s upcoming open-ended run. The fairy tale musical lampoon will begin performances off-Broadway on March 16; opening night is set for April 7.
Michelle Knight (Jersey Boys) returns as Snow White, with Becky Gulsvig (Legally Blonde) as Cinderella, Jen Bechter (Elf) as Sleeping Beauty; Lulu Picart (Listen To My Heart) as Hua Mulan/Pocahontas/Princess Badroulbadour, Alison Burns (Rent) as Belle/The Little Mermaid/Rapunzel and Soara-Joye Ross (Les Misérables) as The Princess Who Kissed the Frog. Erin Leigh Peck (Grease), Karen Burthwright (Jesus Christ Superstar) and Anthea Neri will also continue as understudies.
Featuring a book, music and lyrics by Dennis T. Giacino and directed by Fiely A. Matias, the tuner features your typical “princess posse” in a show that’s anything-but-typical. Snow White, Cinderella, Belle and more toss off the tiaras and get real in a not-for-kids musical where fairy tales will never be the same. Disenchanted premiered at Orlando’s International Fringe Festival in 2011 and has been licensed nationwide since. International productions are to begin this year and a first U.S. national tour will launch in 2016.
