Hey, you, figuring out how make that perfect St. Patrick’s Day dinner—you know you’re facing an impossible task with only a dirty microwave and jar of olives at your disposal. So forget the grub and dig in to what the city has to offer. There are new musicals galore, Tony Yazbeck’s return to 54 Below and more. Open wide for this week’s picks!
Go Below to See The Floor Above Me
Begins March 16 at 54 Below
Tony Yazbeck is terrific in On the Town, so we welcome any opportunity to see him. Lucky for us, 54 Below is bringing Yazbeck back for The Floor Above Me. The Broadway veteran’s show features melodies, memories, and hoofing—plus help from two special guests: On the Town co-star Clyde Alves and tap dance star Melinda Sullivan. Click for tickets!
Save the Date for It Shoulda Been You
Begins March 17 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre
Most people don’t know how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day properly, so they end up at a Bennigan’s swapping Irish Car Bombs and regret with a sales rep named Kevin. Not you. You’re off to see Broadway.com vlogger Sierra Boggess and Tyne Daly in the hilarious modern-day wedding comedy It Shoulda Been You, directed by David Hyde Pierce. We hear he knows a thing about comedy. Click for tickets!
Hitch Your Wagon to a Starry Revival
Begins March 18 at the New York City Center
Broadway is teeming with new goodies, but it is totally OK to stray. Really! Encores! 2015 season continues with Paint Your Wagon, the Lerner and Loewe chestnut about a gold prospector, his daughter, and the men who love her. That’s good. What’s better is this production’s talent extends from the cast (Keith Carradine, Justin Guarini) to the crew (headed by director Marc Bruni of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical). Click for tickets!
Start the Morning with Derek Hough
March 18, check local listings
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Derek Hough is a regular on Dancing with the Stars. That’s all well and good. But when he's a guest on Live! With Kelly and Michael, we want to hear about the dancer’s current gig: starring in the New York Spring Spectacular! We want Laura Benanti shenanigans and details about what the Rockettes scarf down backstage. So listen up, Erin Andrews, the DWTS host who is co-hosting today’s show: keep the workplace war stories to a minimum. Thanks!
See Vanessa Hudgens Graduate to Gigi
Begins March 19 at the Neil Simon Theatre
We kind of love Vanessa Hudgens’ career path since High School Musical. One day she’s starring in the “bikini girls with machine guns” madness of Spring Breakers. Now, she’s making her Broadway debut in the revamped revival of Lerner and Loewe’s Gigi. After a stint at the Kennedy Center, we expect Hudgens, and her co-stars Corey Cott and Victoria Clark to be first-rate. Click for tickets!
