The first Broadway revival of Wendy Wassterstein’s The Heidi Chronicles will play its final performance on May 3, according to The New York Times. The Pam MacKinnon-helmed production stars Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss, Jason Biggs and Tony nominee Bryce Pinkham. Performances were initially scheduled to run through August 9. At the time of its closing, the production will have played 80 performances at the Music Box Theatre.
“We were very well reviewed, and the performances were remarkable, but people didn’t come to see it,” producer Jeffrey Richards told the Times. “Whether it was how crazy busy it was at this time of year or the consumer being asked to choose between so many shows, Heidi Chronicles was not at the top of their list.”
The Heidi Chronicles won both the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize in 1989. This is the first revival since the original production shuttered in 1990. The show spans over 20 years, following Heidi Holland (Moss) from high school to her career as an art historian and how she copes with feminism, men, politics and motherhood.
In addition to Moss, Biggs and Pinkham, the cast includes Tracee Chimo, Ali Ahn, Leighton Bryan, Elise Kibler and Andy Truschinski.
