Boy makes puppet. Puppet is the Devil. Boy is possessed. It’s a timeless tale, and it’s now on Broadway. Robert Askins’ demonic Hand to God celebrates its official opening night on April 7 at the Booth Theatre. In honor of the occasion, Broadway.com resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson penned this sketch of the cast—sock puppets included—in action.
The whole cast gets the Squigs treatment: Steven Boyer as Jason, Michael Oberholtzer as Timmy, Sarah Stiles as Jessica, Marc Kudisch as Pastor Greg and Geneva Carr as Margery. Plus Tyrone, of course.
Congrats to the cast of Hand to God. Enjoy your night! Just use protection. Please. Looking at you, Tyrone.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
