The diva is departing Broadway. Living on Love, starring Renée Fleming, Jerry O’Connell, Douglas Sills, Anna Chlumsky and more, will shutter on May 3 after receiving no Tony nominations. The Joe DiPietro comedy, directed by Kathleen Marshall, began previews on April 1 and officially opened on April 20 at the Longacre Theatre. At time of closing, the production will have played 21 previews and 16 regular performances.
Based on the play Peccadillo by Garson Kanin, Living on Love follows Raquel DeAngelis (Fleming), a celebrated opera diva who, after her husband—the egomaniacal Maesto Vito DeAngelis (Sills)—becomes enamored with his autobiography’s ghost writer (Chlumsky), decides to hire her very own (and handsome) ghostwriter (O'Connell). Sparks fly, silverware is thrown, and romance blossoms.
The cast also includes Blake Hammond and Scott Robertson.
