Shall we dance? The Broadway revival of The King and I begins performances at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theatre on April 16. Bartlett Sher directs the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein tuner, which is set in 1860’s Bangkok. In honor of the show’s big night, Broadway.com resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson has created this portrait of the cast.
Front and center are Ken Watanabe as the King of Siam and Kelli O'Hara as Anna Leonowens, the British schoolteacher he hires to tutor his many wives and children. From left to right, the sketch also features Ashley Park as Tuptim, Conrad Ricamora as Lun Tha, Jake Lucas as Louis, Jon Viktor Corpuz as Prince Chulalongkom, Ruthie Ann Miles as Lady Thiang and Paul Nakauchi as The Kralahome.
Happy opening to the cast—we’re looking forward to “Getting To Know You!”
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
