Every Broadway show of the season is officially open—but even if you’re lucky enough to have seen every show the Great White Way has to offer, there’s still tons of great stuff to do in NYC this week. There are awesome new leads in Hedwig and Chicago, Idina Menzel on your television, and of course, Tony nomination morning. Get ready for this week’s picks!
Fall in Love with Megan Hilty & Her Hubby
April 27 at Birdland
It’s rare to do something on Monday—that day of bleary eyes and lowered expectations—that rivals Friday night’s razzle-dazzle. Well, you’re in luck this week. Wicked and Smash favorite Megan Hilty joins husband Brian Gallagher as the latter performs songs from his new album All That’s Ahead. Expect special guests and luxurious duets from the talented pair that will provide the necessary resolve to face the rest of the week. Click for tickets!
Behold Brandy’s Broadway Bow
Begins April 28 at the Ambassador Theatre
Chicago has featured lots of starry arrivals in recent years, and that’s totally fine by us. It puts a new spin on the sexy revival, which started all the way back in 1996, the height of pagers on pants. The latest newcomer has been popular before that unfortunate trend: Brandy, the Grammy-winning pop star and former Cinderella, stars as Roxie Hart, succeeding Paige Davis. She’ll grace the stage through June 21. Click for tickets!
Have Breakfast with the Tonys
April 28 on CBS and TonyAwards.com
Mornings are usually devoid of sizzle and excitement, but twice a year, there’s an exception: Christmas (for those who worship at the altar or Santa) and another blessed day: Tony nomination day! Join Broadway-bound Bruce Willis and Tony winner Mary-Louise Parker as they reveal the nominees for the 69th annual event. Revel in the excitement—and how Willis and Parker look smoking hot at freakin’ 8:30 am. Stars, they are nothing like us!
All Hail the New Hedwig
Begins April 29 at the Belasco Theatre
As Hedwig and the Angry Inch rocks on, we just have to keep seeing it. The reason: The Tony-winning show’s commitment to casting terrific leading men. Darren Criss is the latest A-lister, replacing show creator/original Hedwig/swirling-life-force John Cameron Mitchell. However, given Criss’ skills and his enthusiasm for the opportunity, we’re hard-pressed to think of anyone better to wriggle into Hedwig’s mini-skirts. Click for tickets!
Stay Up Late with Idina Menzel
April 30 on CBS
With her world tour fast approaching, Idina Menzel will become a little less ubiquitous, so you have to catch her while you can. Tonight is a good opportunity as one of Broadway’s brightest lights twinkles over to The Late Late Show with James Corden for maybe (fingers crossed) a little carpool karaoke. If that happens, expect “Let it Go,” a charming little ditty from an obscure animated film, to be on the playlist.
