Hand to God star Steven Boyer, accompanied by his demonic puppet Tyrone, will host the 81st Annual Drama League Awards. As previously reported, the ceremony will take place on May 15 in the Broadway Ballroom at the Marriott Marquis Time Square.
Additionally, Neil Patrick Harris, who took home the League’s Distinguished Performance Award last year, will award this year’s recipient. Zachary Quinto will present the production awards. Joel Grey, Stephen Daldry, Neal Shapiro and David Horn will receive special honors at the ceremony.
Boyer, who is a Drama League Distinguished Performance Award nominee this year, made his Broadway debut in 2002 in I’m Not Rappaport. He has also appeared on stage in The Explorer’s Club and Modern Terrorism and on screen in The Wolf of Wall Street and Listen Up Phillip. Tyrone is a sock puppet.
Nominations were announced on April 21. The Drama League Awards honor distinguished productions, performances and exemplary career achievements in musical theatre and directing. First awarded in 1922 and formalized in 1935, they are the oldest theatrical honors in America.
