Tony-nominated The Last Ship composer Sting, 2015 Tony honoree Tommy Tune, The Spoils’ Jesse Eisenberg and more will present at the 60th annual OBIE Awards, honoring the best of off-Broadway. Additionally, Signature Theatre Artistic Director James Houghton will receive a special OBIE Award for Sustained Achievement at the ceremony, which is set for May 18 at Webster Hall.
The event will also feature special performances by Fun Home Tony nominee Michael Cerveris and Natalie Cortez. Orange is the New Black’s Lea DeLaria will host. Additional presenters include It’s Only a Play’s Stockard Channing and T.R. Knight, Billy Crudup, Tony Kushner, LaChanze, Fun Home book writer and lyricist Lisa Kron, Bradley Theodore, William Ivey Long and Tom Finkel.
Unlike most awards, the OBIEs do not publicize nominations or employ rigid categories. As previously announced, this year’s judging panel includes playwright Adam Bock, orchestrator Bruce Coughlin, director Lear deBessonet, scenic designer Mimi Lien, critic David Rooney, Village Voice critic Tom Sellar, director Liesl Tommy and Michael Feingold.
