Into the woods, then out of the woods…then back in some 28 years later! Original Into the Woods cast members Bernadette Peters, Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien and more will reunite at the Brooklyn Academy of Music to discuss working on the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine musical. Two panel discussions, moderated by Mo Rocca and including performances, will take place on June 21.
In addition to Peters, Gleason and Zien, who took on the roles of the Witch, the Baker’s Wife and the Baker, respectively, original Broadway cast members Robert Westenberg (Cinderella’s Prince), Kim Crosby (Cinderella), Danielle Ferland (Little Red Riding Hood) and Ben Wright (Jack) will take part. The reunion and panel discussion previously took place on November 9, 2014 at Costa Mesa’ Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
Into the Woods weaves the familiar fairy tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel with an original story about a baker and his wife. The original Broadway production opened on November 5, 1987 and won Tony Awards for Sondheim’s score, Lapine’s book and Gleason’s performance.
The show recently returned to New York in a stripped-down off-Broadway revival from Roundabout Theatre Company. The Fiasco Theatre production will launch a national tour in 2016. The 2014 film adaptation, directed by Rob Marshall, starred Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt and Anna Kendrick.
