Raúl Esparza, Kate Burton, Patrick Page and more will join the previously announced Hamish Linklater and Lily Rabe in Cymbeline this summer. The trio takes on the roles of Iachimo, Queen/Belarius and the titular King of Britain, respectively. The Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production will run from July 23 through August 23 at the Delacorte Theatre. Opening night is set for August 10.
Cymbeline, considered one of Shakespeare’s romance plays, follows the princess Imogen (Rabe) as she is put to the test when her father exiles her husband whom she married in secret, Postumus Leonatus (Linklater.) The Daniel Sullivan-helmed production will also feature Teagle F. Bougere as Caius Lucius/Cornelius, David Furr as Guidarius/First Lord, Jacob Ming-Trent as Aviragus/First Gentleman and Steven Skybell as Pisanio/Gaoler/Frenchman.
Esparza received Tony nominations for his performances in Speed-the-Plow, The Homecoming, Company and Taboo. He most recently appeared on Broadway in Leap of Faith. Burton’s Broadway credits include Tony-nominated turns in The Constant Wife, Hedda Gabler and The Elephant Man; her screen credits include 127 Hours and Scandal. Page starred in Casa Valentina on the Great White Way last season; his additional recent credits include A Time to Kill, Cyrano de Bergerac and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
One of the Bard’s other romances, The Tempest, begins performances on May 27 at the Delacorte. The production stars Shakespeare in the Park alums Sam Waterston and Jesse Tyler Ferguson
