Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Ramin Karimloo's In Demand
Ramin Karimloo is keeping us guessing. According to the New York Post, the Tony nominee was recently tapped for an industry workshop of the Broadway-aimed Anastasia alongside Elena Shaddow. The previously reported stage adaptation, directed by Darko Tresnjak and penned by Terrence McNally, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, will receive its world premiere at Hartford Stage next summer. Interestingly, Karimloo is also attached to Prince of Broadway, which will play Japan later this year and has been circling the Great White Way for some time. Although we'll be sorry to see Karimloo depart the Main Stem when he leaves Les Miz on August 30, we have a feeling he'll be back on Broadway's boards in another exciting project sooner rather than later!
Michael Buckley & Anneliese van der Pol's Sex Tips
Comedian and YouTube star Michael Buckley (What The Buck?) and Anneliese van der Pol (That’s So Raven) will star in Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man. The duo will join Matt Murphy’s comedy, based on the best-selling book by Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman, as Dan and Robyn, from July 2 through July 11. Buckley, who is making his off-Broadway debut in Sex Tips, will also perform in the show’s upcoming week-long run at The Provincetown Theater August 3 through August 8.
Younger's a Ratings Record Breaker
The Sutton Foster-led Younger was recently renewed for a second season by TV Land and it’s now been revealed that the show set ratings records for the network! The Wrap reports that the comedy garnered the largest in-season growth for an original series in TV Land's history and that it’s also been streamed 4.6 million times on Hulu since March. It must have been all those statement necklaces that did it. Younger will return in January 2016.
Hedwig Alums Will Headline New Stephen Trask Tuner
Hedwig faves Michael C. Hall and Tony winner Lena Hall will star alongside Derek Klena and Condola Rashad in the previously reported reading of the new musical 15 Minutes by Hedwig composer Stephen Trask, Rick Elice and Peter Yanowitz, under the direction of Trip Cullman at Vassar this summer. Other notable names tapped for the 31st Powerhouse Season include Jennifer Westfeldt, who will star in new tuner Rain from Sybille Pearson and Michael John LaChiusa, and Finn Wittrock, who will appear in a reading of Stephen Belber’s new play The Dizzy Little Dance Of Russell DiFinald.
Nicole Scherzinger Does Avenue Q
Nicole Scherzinger is currently competing on I Can Do That and she recently performed from a Tony-winning show on the NBC series! No, not that one, but Avenue Q! Check out below as the Olivier nominee sings "It Sucks To Be Me" from the puppet-tastic tuner, along with Joe Jonas. Scherzinger kills it, obviously. Now, stop teasing us Nicole, and please come to Broadway, ASAP!
