The U.K’s National Theatre has released more details for its upcoming July 2015-January 2016 season. Highlights include Broadway alum Anne-Marie Duff (Macbeth) headlining D.H. Lawrence’s Husbands & Sons and Rosalie Craig starring in Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
Husbands & Sons will begin performances on October 19 at the Dorfman Theatre and officially open on October 27. Adapted by Ben Power and directed by Marianne Elliott, Duff will take on the role of Lizzie Holroyd. The show interweaves three of Lawrence’s classic dramas (The Daughter-in-Law, A Collier’s Friday Night and The Widowing of Mrs Holroyd), and plays them simultaneously.
As You Like It will play the Olivier Theatre, with previews from October 26 and opening night on November 3. Polly Findlay directs Shakespeare’s comedy of love and change, with a cast including Craig as Rosalind and Broadway alum Paul Chahidi as Jaques.
Harley Granville Barker’s Waste is scheduled to run at the Lyttleton Theatre from November 3 and officially open on November 10, under the direction of Roger Michell. Charles Edwards leads the cast, which also includes William Chubb. Banned by the censors in 1907, Granville Barker’s controversial play gathers a large ensemble to expose a cut-throat, cynical world of sex, sleaze and suicide amongst the political elite of Edwardian England.
Jon Klassen’s I Want My Hat Back is set for the Temporary Theatre, with previews from November 12 and will open on November 16. With book and lyrics by Joel Horwood and music by Arthur Darvill, the production will be directed by Wils Wilson. Bear’s hat is gone. He loves his hat. He wants it back. He asks all of the animals in the forest, but no one has seen it. WAIT! He has seen it somewhere.
Wallace Shawn’s new play Evening at the Talk House will receive its world premiere at the Dorfman Theatre, beginning previews on November 17 and opening on November 24. Directed by Ian Rickson, the cast includes Sinead Matthews and follows a reunion at the almost legendary club, The Talk House.
Here We Go, a new, short play about death by Caryl Churchill, will be directed by Dominic Cooke and play the Lyttelton Theatre November 25 through December 19, with opening night set for November 27.
wonder.land will begin previews from November 23 and officially open on December 2 at the Olivier Theatre. A new musical inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, with music by Blur’s Damon Albarn and book and lyrics by Moira Buffini, the production will be directed by Rufus Norris.
Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors will play the Temporary Theatre October 21 though November 6. Directed by Bijan Sheibani, the new version by Ben Power is for young audiences aged 8—12.
