At the age of 12, Sydney Lucas has already accomplished more than most of us do in a lifetime—she’s starring in the hit Broadway show Fun Home and she nabbed a 2015 Tony nomination for her astounding performance as Small Alison. But despite her busy schedule, the young actress still has time to eat candy bars, ride her scooter, make collages and more fun stuff. Lucas gave Broadway.com an all-access pass, showing off her favorite snacks, costumes, hiding spots and more. Check out her photo stash below, then see her in the Tony-winning musical Fun Home at Circle in the Square Theatre!
My favorite thing in my dressing room
"A collage that Gabby [Small Alison understudy Gabrielle Pizzolo] and I made together."
My view from the stage door
“Having fun and wishing a happy birthday to one of our Fun Homies!”
The best thing to eat on a two-show day
“A brie sandwich with chicken noodle soup from Pret a Manger and a Kit Kat...my yummy two-show day meal this Saturday.”
My view from the stage
“Would ya just take a look at this beautiful theater in the round! Perfect for a pano picture.”
My favorite co-stars
“I love all of my co-stars, but spend the most time with the kids [Oscar Williams, Zell Steele Morrow and Gabriella Pizzolo]. We have a lot of fun together!”
The crew member who saves my butt
"This is Vanessa, our wrangler. Not only is she fun but she saves our bacon on a daily basis."
The best costume piece I wear
"Although I love the barrette that keeps my bangs out of my eyes, my crotch strap has helped me the most because I no longer have to tuck in my shirt every five minutes."
My good luck charm
"I’m pretty sure the Fun Homies already know that Bongo is my good luck charm."
My favorite post-show snack
"Bongo and I love to visit the ice cream truck right outside the theater after the show. So convenient!"
My favorite line in Fun Home
“The line I like the best is in the song ‘Come to the Fun Home.’ It’s ‘Think of Bechdel when you need to embalm.’”
My favorite spot in the theater
“The Nest is the kids’ favorite spot.”
The first thing I take off after curtain call
“...My microphone.”
Selfie right before I go onstage
“This is me right before I go ask Daddy to play airplane.”
