Corey Cott, Laura Osnes & Beth Leavel Tapped for World Premiere of The Bandstand at Paper Mill Playhouse

Broadway alum Corey Cott, Tony nominee and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Laura Osnes and Tony winner Beth Leavel will headline the world premiere of The Bandstand at Paper Mill Playhouse, according to Variety. Directed by Hamilton choreographer Andy Blankenbuhler, the show will begin performances on October 8 and open on October 18.

Cott appeared on Broadway earlier this year opposite Vanessa Hudgens in Gigi. He made his Broadway debut as Jack Kelly in Newsies and has appeared on screen in Madam Secretary and the upcoming films The Intern and The Teacher. Osnes made her Broadway debut in Grease, and has since starred in South Pacific, Anything Goes, Bonnie and Clyde and Cinderella. She also appeared in the off-Broadway revival of The Threepenny Opera and in Chicago Lyric Opera’s Carousel opposite Steven Pasquale. Leavel won a Tony Award in 2006 for her performance as The Drowsy Chaperone's title character. She was also nominated for Baby It's You! Her additional credits include Mamma Mia!, Elf, Young Frankenstein and 42nd Street.

The musical, which features a swing score by Richard Oberacker, who collaborated on the book and lyrics with Robert Taylor, tells the story of a group of soldiers who returns to Cleveland after fighting in World War II. They enter a song competition, the winner of which gets to perform his or her tribute to the troops on a live broadcast.

The production will feature set design by David Korins, costumes by Paloma Young, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

Additional casting will be announced later. Though it seems aimed for Broadway, there is no official word on whether the musical will play the Great White Way following its Paper Mill production, which runs through November 8.
