David Bowie has his off-Broadway heroes in place. Cristin Milioti, Michael Esper and more will join the previously announced Michael C. Hall in Lazarus at New York Theatre Workshop. Created by Bowie and Once book writer Enda Walsh, performances will begin on November 18; opening night is scheduled for December 7. Ivo van Hove, who is soon set to make his directorial Broadway debut with A View From the Bridge, will helm the production.
Joining Tony nominee Milioti (Once) as Elly and Esper (The Last Ship) as Valentine will be Krystina Alabado (American Idiot), Sophia Anne Caruso (The Sound Of Music: Live), Nicholas Christopher (Whorl Inside A Loop), Lynn Craig (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Bobby Moreno (Year of the Rooster), Krista Pioppi (Spring Awakening), Charlie Pollock (The Wild Party) and Brynn Williams (Bye Bye Birdie).
Inspired by Walter Tevis’ 1963 novel The Man Who Fell to Earth, Lazarus follows Thomas Newton (Hall), the alcoholic alien-turned-inventor portrayed by Bowie in the 1976 screen adaptation. The show will feature original tunes by Bowie, as well as new arrangements of his known hits.
