The 2015-16 Lincoln Center Theater season will feature three new works, including War, a play by Gloria and Appropriate scribe Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. The Lileana Blain-Cruz-helmed production will begin performances at off-Broadway’s Claire Tow Theater on May 21, 2016 and open on June 6.
Before War, LCT will present the world premiere of Greg Pierce’s Her Requiem, beginning performances on February 6 at the Claire Tow Theater, plus Marco Ramirez’ The Royale at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater beginning February 11.
Her Requiem will open on February 22 and run through March 20. It follows high school student Caitlin, who takes her senior year off to compose a complete requiem mass. Her devotion to the project soon tears apart her family. Kate Whoriskey will direct the production, which will feature sets by Derek McLane, costumes by Jessica Pabst, lighting design by Amith Chandrashaker and sound design by Matt Tierney.
The Royale is loosely based on pioneering African American heavyweight champion Jack Johnson and tells the story of Jay, who confronts opponents of the ring as well as his own personal demons. Rachel Chavkin will direct the production, which is set to open officially on March 7.
Jacobs-Jenkins’ War explores the tensions between two brothers who, while visiting their mother in the hospital, are confronted by two strangers armed with a surprising claim about their grandfather during World War II. The production, set to run through July 3, will have sets by Mimi Lien, costumes by Montana Blanco, lighting design by Matt Frey and sound design by Bray Poor.
Her Requiem and War are both produced by LCT3, a Lincoln Center program that highlights shows by new playwrights and designers. Additional information, including casting, will be announced at a later date.
