Here's a quick roundup of album-centric stories you may have missed today.
Lin-Manuel Miranda Explains Himself
Keen observers of Hamilton (that's everyone, right?) will have noted the omission of a significant scene from the new tuner's cast album between “Dear Theodosia” and “Non Stop." Ever mindful of his fans, creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda posted the missing moment on his Tumblr account and explained his reasoning behind the edit. "It really is more of a scene than a song, the only SCENE in our show, and I think its impact is at its fullest in production form. As someone who grew up ONLY listening to cast albums (we ain’t have money for a lot of Broadway shows, like most people) those withheld moments were REVELATIONS to me when I finally experienced them onstage, years later. Hamilton is sung through, and I wanted to have at least ONE revelation in store for you. I stand by the decision, and I think the album is better for it." So now "We Know!"
Get Up Close & Personal With Zhivago's Tam Mutu
Devastated that this epic romance made a premature exit from the Great White Way earlier this year? Well, hopefully this will lessen the pain for all the Doctor Zhivago fans out there. Broadway Records is scheduled to hold an album release event and CD signing on September 30 at 6PM at Sardi's. Those attending will be treated to live cast performances and a Q and A from the production's cast and creatives including the show's headliners Tam Mutu, Kelli Barrett and Paul Alexander Nolan. Want to go? The first sixty people to RSVP to ZhivagoRSVP@BroadwayRecords.com with the words RSVP and their name will be admitted (for free!) at the door with "proper ID." So get emailing!
Daddy Long Legs to Receive Cast Album
Curious about the Cinderella/Downton/Austen type story that is the off-Broadway musical Daddy Long Legs? Well, the show, starring Megan McGinnis and Paul Alexander Nolan, will record a cast album on Ghostlight Records; the release date is set to be announced later. Featuring music and lyrics by Paul Gordon, along with book and direction by John Caird, the production began previews on September 10 and will officially open on September 28 at the Davenport Theatre.
Get in Line for Unheard A Chorus Line Tracks
That one singular sensation A Chorus Line is 40-years-young, and to mark the momentous event, Masterworks Broadway is set to release a definitive, newly re-mastered edition of the best-selling 1975 Original Broadway Cast Recording! A Chorus Line—40th Anniversary Celebration will feature eight bonus tracks that—for the first time—allow the listener to eavesdrop on the creative process of composer Marvin Hamlisch and lyricist Edward Kleban, including songs that did not make it into the final version of their acclaimed score. The record will drop October 23 both digitally and in stores...and on the basis it's Friday, here's a #FBF to the A Chorus Line's cast at the 1976 Tony Awards and their rendition of "I Hope I Get It." Happy weekend!
