Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today and over the weekend.
Bobby Cannavale's Supersized
Bobby Cannavale, Edie Falco, Frank Wood and more will perform the work of talented ten-year-olds in Larger Than Life: The Supersized Plays. The semi-annual series is run by The 52nd Street Project, which pairs Hell’s Kitchen kids with theater professionals who mentor them through the creation of original theater. Larger Than Life, with one-acts by Lauren Amador-Cruz, Lily Kuzminski, Ayman Musa, Bryanna Ohene Kari-Kari, Leonel Perez, Derek Rey, Selena Sanchez, Gage Simmons and Beyonce Thomas, will run December 11 through December 13 at The 52nd Street Project’s Five Angels Theater.
New Billy Elliot Ballet Boy Takes Center Stage
Staying on the subject of pint-sized talent, Euan Garrett will make his West End stage debut at the Victoria Palace Theatre in Billy Elliot the Musical on November 16. The 12-year-old from East Lothian, Scotland, will be the 42nd boy to play the title role in the London production. Matthew Seadon-Young (Urinetown) is also set to join the company as Billy’s older brother Tony. Ruthie Henshall and Deka Walmsley contine to lead the adult cast as Mrs. Wilkinson and Dad, respectively.
Cirque du Soleil—Paramour Set for Thanksgiving Parade
Another reason to tune in to the 89th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC! Cirque du Soleil—Paramour’s leading lady Ruby Lewis and 22 Cirque du Soleil artists will perform the world premiere of “Paramour,” the title song from the new show, during the event on November 26. Paramour will begin previews on April 16, 2016 at Broadway’s Lyric Theatre.
A Handbag (in Palm Springs)
Lucie Arnaz, Wendie Malick and more have been tapped for The Importance of Being Ernest (In New York). Adapted and directed by Tony winner David Zippel, the modern twist on Oscar Wilde’s classic is now a story of New Yorkers obsessed with social position (Jack and Algernon live at Trump Tower and summer in the Hamptons—you get the picture!). The one-night-only benefit performance will take place on November 18 at Palm Springs Art Museum’s Annenberg Theater courtesy of Coyote StageWorks.
