Three-time Tony nominee Linda Emond will join the previously reported Ralph Fiennes in The Master Builder. Australian actress Sarah Snook has also boarded the production at London's Old Vic, which will be directed by Matthew Warchus. Ibsen's classic is scheduled to play a limited engagement January 25, 2016 through March 19; opening night is set for February 3. The Daily Mail reports the production will then transfer to Broadway in the fall of next year.
Fiennes won a Tony Award for playing the title role in Hamlet, and garnered an additional nomination for Faith Healer. He earned Oscar nods for The English Patient and Schindler’s List. His many film and TV credits include The Grand Budapest Hotel, Skyfall, Spectre, The Hurt Locker, Clash of the Titans and the Harry Potter films.
Emond was last seen on Broadway in the recent revival of Cabaret, a performance which earned her a Tony nomination; she also received nods for Death of a Salesman and Life x 3. Snook's theater credits include King Lear, Lovely/Ugly: Transformer, Crestfall and S27.
Harvard Solness (Fiennes), a master architect, has spent his lifetime building the tallest spires in the land. Now at the height of his career and with a powerful position in the community he seems to have it all, but when Hilde (Snook), a radiant country girl, descends unexpectedly into his world, cracks being to show as age is confronted by youth and a series of revelations build to a tragic climax. Emond will play Aline Solness.
The cast is set to additionally include Charlie Cameron as Kaja Fosil, James Dreyfus as Dr. Herdal and James Laurenson as Knut Brovnik.
The Master Builder will feature design by Rob Howell, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, music by Gary Yershon and sound by Simon Baker.
