The world premiere of Mark Gerrard’s Steve will extend off-Broadway through January 3, 2016; the production had previously been set to shutter on December 27. Directed by Cynthia Nixon and starring Matt McGrath, Mario Cantone, Jerry Dixon, Malcolm Gets and more, the show is playing at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
Steve follows Steven (McGrath), a failed Broadway chorus boy turned stay-at-home dad. As he celebrates his birthday, he faces fear and uncertainty. He worries that Stephen (Gets), his partner of 14 years, is cheating on him, his best friend is dying of cancer and he questions what he’s done with his life.
The cast also includes Ashlie Atkinson and Francisco Pryor Garat.
The New Group production officially opened on November 18.
