Sherie Rene Scott's Whorl Inside a Loop, which recently ran off-Broadway, is eyeing a move to the Main Stem. According to Out, the play, which she headlined as well as penned, will be recast with a "name" for the transfer. Directed by Michael Mayer and Dick Scanlan, and co-written by Scanlan, the show follows a well-regarded actress who agrees to teach six inmates how to tell their stories behind the bars of a men’s maximum-security prison. Lesli Margherita & Lisa Howard Team Up With Muppets
Lesli Margherita, Lisa Howard, Christopher Gattelli, Paul Williams, Steven Booth, Cass Morgan, Kate Wetherhead and more will join forces on December 15 for Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas in Concert. Yet another TV gig for Anika Noni Rose! After the news that we’ll see the Tony winner next year in A+E Networks’ Roots, we now learn that she has been tapped for a multi-episode arc on Starz’s Power. According to Deadline, Rose will take on the role of savvy cop LaVerne Thomas in the drama series.
Lion King's Ray Mercer's Good Cause
Long-time The Lion King cast member Ray Mercer is set to present Pure Motion, an evening of his dances produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Taking place on February 29, 2016 at the Big Apple’s the Ailey Citigroup Theatre, the show will feature up and coming dancers in seven contemporary pieces. We're sure they'll be able to feel the love that night!
